Chapter Nineteen

Before Ariel could do more than lift her head from the still swollen erection that had filled her mouth, Shane was on his feet. He picked up her up in arms that strained with tension before he stalked to the bed, tossing her to the mattress before he came over her.

“You would push a man too far,” he growled as he restrained her hands, holding them to the bed as powerful thighs encased her legs. “Control is a fragile thing, Ariel. You have destroyed mine.”

She stared up at him, knowing she should be concerned, worried about the sudden lustful flames that burned in his eyes. Shadows coalesced in her mind, an edge of worry, a fragile thread of nervousness that dissipated beneath her own burgeoning desire.

“What are you going to do?” she taunted him then.

She had always restrained herself, had always played by someone else’s rules. But something rose inside her then, something she wouldn’t have expected, couldn’t have known. She knew Shane was capable of much more than he had shown her so far in regards to his passion. He was a large, muscular man. His strength would require great control over each touch. She wanted that control gone. She wanted the warrior and the man, the lover and the Viking. But most especially she wanted what she knew he had never allowed himself to give her in that first life they had known each other.

She was naked, lying beneath as she watched him fight to rein in his lusts. But he was hungry, she could see it, greedy for every taste, every touch. That fire burning in his eyes threatened the hold he had on his lusts.

“Sweet Ariel.” Rather than answering her, his head lowered, his lips smoothing over hers. “Do not bait me now, beloved.”

She snapped at his lips. Her teeth nipped at the full lower curve, causing his eyes to narrow with the promise of retribution.

“You do not want what you are tempting,” his voice was a hard, rough rasp, torn from the very depths of his chest. “It has been too long.”

She ran her tongue over her lips slowly, her lashes lowering as she stared back at him.

“Don’t I?” She focused on the air around her, a small smile tipping her lips as she commanded it to do what she couldn’t.

She watched his expression change, watched his face flush as ecstasy washed over it. She knew the touch was featherlight, curling around the base of his cock, creating just enough pressure to tease, just enough touch to tempt.

“Let me touch you,” she whispered, tugging at the grip he had on her hands.

“I think not,” his voice was strangled, a harsh growl as the very air teased him in her stead. “I think for this, you must be punished. Tempting me in such a way is not wise.”
